Twitter Challenge Involving First Day of School Outfits Goes Viral

200 retweets gets you fish slippers.

Need help choosing your first day of school outfit? There's now a Twitter challenge for that. But be forewarned, it's not for the fashionably faint of heart.

The start of school is right around the corner, which brings a lot of anxiety about new classes, new friends, and new outfits. Gone are the days of obsessing over the perfect ensemble to wear and/or coordinating with your best friends so that you can make your grand entrance back at school as the perfect squad. Now, teens are looking for the most ridiculous outfits to rack up the retweets. Yes, yes you read that right.

The first day of school Twitter challenge goes like this: Find the wackiest outfit you'd kind of be willing to wear in public (or complies with your school's dress code), tweet a picture of the outfit, set your goal for retweets, and see if enough people dare you to actually sport it on the first day of school.

Ideas range from softball cleats to a unicorn onesie to Big Mouth Bass slippers (who knew they even made those?). And take our advice: Set the bar a lot higher than 160 retweets, especially now that the original tweets are going viral.

It's been a minute since a social media challenge has gained major traction — remember the Mannequin Challenge? — but there have been plenty of other, smaller challenges to keep the Internet occupied since. There's the "Cup Blowing Challenge," where someone spins a cup and blows on it so it leaps up in the air, and the 100 Layers Challenge in which someone applies 100 layers of a beauty product (and it often ends in disaster). Celebrities even inspire challenges sometimes, as seen by the Nicki Minaj Challenge, which came about after Nicki Minaj posted an iconic video of her twirling.

Good luck out there, folks.
